A cholesterol vaccine may replace statins in the future

New research just announced suggests that a potential vaccine may lower cholesterol by attacking a molecule that controls levels of low-density lipoprotein (LDL – the “bad” cholesterol). Researchers from the University of New Mexico and the National Institutes of Health report in the journal Vaccine that mice and macaques given the vaccine showed lower LDL levels, as well as reductions in total cholesterol and triglycerides
